TESTIMONIALS |
For
some reason, most brides are afraid to make their own wedding
flowers. In truth, with proper
training and time, you can create amazing
arrangements where even the most skilled florist cannot
tell they were not professionally designed.
Man-made
Flowers
An
excellent idea is to gather your bridal party about four
to six months out from the wedding date and take classes
together for making wedding flowers. You can learn how to
make beautiful designs from fresh, silk, and dried flowers
and then as the wedding date approaches, you can get together
again and start making the arrangements. This newly gained
skill is something that everyone can carry with them through
life and the time spent with friends is a wonderful opportunity
to share something special.
Tools
When
making your own wedding flowers, you can stretch your creativity
a little further and save money. In addition to the flowers,
you only need a few items such as buckets or glass containers,
foam, clippers, and ribbon. Many local colleges or community
centers offer classes for beginners and you can find tremendous
value in books at your local bookstore or library.
The
main criterion for making your wedding flowers is to be
prepared. You need to allow yourself ample
time to learn and to order the types of flowers you want.
Some flowers are imported and take longer to get so make
sure you have a schedule that keeps you on track of when
to order.
If
you will be making the wedding flowers for your ceremony
and reception, decide the type of containers. Check with
your local hobby or home improvement store where you can
gain numerous ideas without paying a fortune. For the reception
hall, if you use average size tables, you will need a minimum
of two centerpieces per table. For the ceremony, you need
at minimum, one large arrangement for the front of the church
and then two smaller, coordinating arrangements to place
on either side. Other flowers would include the bride’s
bouquet, bridal party flowers, groomsmen flowers, family
flowers, and small flowers or arrangements for the individual
handling the guest book, vocalist, and musicians.
Fresh
Flowers
Order
your flowers domestically,
and if possible, near or in your specific geographical area.
As soon as they arrive, you need to spray all of them carefully
with tap water so they stay fresh.
The
day before the flowers arrive, have all your accessories
and tools laid out so you can work with your bridal party
in an assembly line type approach. You might have one person
do the trimming, one or two people working on setting up
the containers, filling the bottom with rocks, marbles,
or foam, one or two people doing the actual arrangements,
and another person making and attaching the bows.
You
will be so proud of the beautiful flowers at your wedding,
knowing that they were created with people you love, during
a special time together.
